PhD Bureaucrats - Moses Charikar

These bozos are supposed to generally represent graduate students to the department and are ultimately responsible for problems they are unable to offload unto others. Send email to bureaucrats@cs to reach them and a few past bureaucrats.

A new PhD bureaucrat and a new MS bureaucrat are chosen every quarter, to serve for two quarters.

Social Committee - Sergey Brin, Leon Wong

Three(+) students elected in the Fall (or Winter). Organize social events or embezzle money, once a quarter.

Recruitment committee - Uri Lerner, Chen Li, Li-wei He, Xavier Boyen, Bernd Finkbeiner, and Beth Seamans

Elected in the winter, they make sure the prospective Ph.D. students have a good time during the recruitment week-end and come to Stanford.

PhD program committee: Program, policy, and evaluation - Julien Basch

One Ph.D. student. Evaluates the Ph.D. program policies.

Faculty search committees - Edouard Bugnion, Avi Pfeffer

Two students per Faculty Search Committee.

TGIF Czar - Anna Patterson; Deputy - Chetan Rai

Get food and drink for our Friday gatherings, on the 4th floor balcony of Gates.

Curriculum Committee - Apostolos Lerios

The committee regularly reviews the various curricula.

Building Committee - Diego Ruspini, Oliver Brock

The action has slowed down in this committee, but the building can do with a few improvements, and who knows if we won't get a few more wings here and there.

Computer Forum Committee - Ramana Yerneni, Ram Vemuri

Two students elected The main responsibility is to help organize the annual Forum meeting.

Sports Czar - Michael Harville

Elected in the Fall. Keeps graduate students healthy by helping organize IM teams.

Web Czar - Erik Rauch

Webmaster of the www-cs-student pages. In particular, he maintains this page. (Isn't delegation great?) --- But why am I the one who is typing this, then?

Space and Computer Czars - TBA

Elected in the Spring, allocates office space and computers to students.


Please note that there are two more committees that have significant student representation, namely the Ph.D. admissions committee and the MSCS committee. Candidates should not contact those student representatives directly. If you have any questions about this policy, please feel free to contact one of the bureaucrats instead.

The election/general info meeting was held on Friday, January 17th, at 4:00 on the fourth floor balcony, as the first part of TGIF.
