Graduate Students Home Page - Fall '96
Believe or not, unlike all other web pages, this page is not under
construction. It is absolutely, positively, completely finished and
will never be touched again. A lot of the text was shamelessly stolen
from Sandeep Singhal.
These bozos are supposed to generally represent graduate students to
the department and are ultimately responsible for problems they are
unable to offload unto others. Send email to
bureaucrats@cs to
reach them and a few past bureaucrats.
A new PhD bureaucrat is chosen every quarter to serve for two quarters.
The MS bureaucrat is chosen every quarter.
The committee regularly reviews the various curricula.
The action has slowed down in this committee, but the building can do
with a few improvements, and who knows if we won't get a few more wings
here and there.
Four students, elected in the Fall. This committee has total
responsibility for the MSCS program, including admissions, programs,
awarding degrees, passing petitions, etc. Work mostly
consists of deciding whom to admit.
Social Committee - TBA
Three(+) students elected in the Fall. Organize social
events or embezzle money, once a quarter.
Three students, elected in the Fall, sit on the PhD admissions
committee. This is considered to be the student post that requires
the most work with the possible exception of the TGIF Czar below. For
reasons that are beyond the understanding of bureaucracy, it is also
the most coveted.
Recruitment committee - TBA in winter
Elected in the winter, they make sure the the prospective Ph.D. students have a good time
during the recruitment week-end and come to Stanford.
Get food and drink for our Friday gatherings, on the 4th floor balcony of Gates.
Space and Computer Czars - TBA
Allocates office space and computers to students.
Two students elected
The main responsibility is to help organize the annual Forum meeting.
Library and Pubs Committee - No representative
Deals with library and publications issues, I suppose. Well, not really.
It seems that this committee doesn't really exist.
Sports Czar - Michael Harville
Elected in the Fall.
Keeps graduate students healthy by helping organize IM teams.
Webmaster of the www-cs-student pages. In particular, he maintains
this page. (Isn't delegation great?) --- But why am I the one who is
typing this, then?
