This WWW page is growing. Originally, I thought things like my Columbia Triathlon course description might come in handy, so I made it available and have been adding things slowly ever since. Probably the biggest thing I've added is a collection of triathlon race reports that have been posted to rec.sport.triathlon at some point in the past. Almost everything you'll see on this page is related to triathlons (or the swimming, cycling, or running that make up most triathlons). I also don't have access to a scanner, so you won't be spending lots of time waiting for monster graphics files to load (but I do have access to a plotting program so there are a few relatively small - ~4K - bicycle course profiles).
For a short time only, you can look at all the messages I saved regarding the Tri-Fed/USA elections.
I have never seen anything more than a cursory article about swimming in open water in magazines. So I gathered my knowlege and experience on the subject and wrote some tips for open water swimming.
One thing I dislike about race information and coverage of those races in magazines is that they never describe the course well enough that I know what to expect when I get there. With lots of people coming from all over the country to do the Columbia Triathlon (Tri-Fed/USA National Amateur Championships) in August, 1994, I decided to write a description of the Columbia Triathlon Course that people could use before getting here. In addition, I have collected over 100 triathlon race reports from others for your enjoyment/race planning/race preparation.
There are constant questions on rec.sport.triathlon about triathlon rules (especially drafting). And before r.s.t. existed, there were questions on rec.running, and rec.bicycles before that. Over the years, I have entered the Tri-Fed/USA Competitive Rules into the computer and updated them on a yearly basis. But even having access to the rules, an alarmingly large percentage of people still misinterpret them (especially the drafting rules), including Tri-Fed on their Most Common Rule Violations sheet that is distributed at lots of races. Test your knowlege with this drafting rules quiz that I posted to the newsgroup in 1993. Don't worry, nobody is being graded.
If you are interested in the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim, then I also have quite a bit of information regarding the race.
Over the years, I have collected lots of net wisdom regarding bicycles and saved the articles. Rather than keep it to myself, I'm making the articles available.
And since wetsuits have been a hot topic, I have saved some wetsuit reviews that were posted on rec.sport.triathlon (including Joann Lehrman's now famous review).
