  • The Clarkson School, Potsdam NY (high school)

    At Stanford:

  • created Stanford Virtual Router, a prototype router with separate control and data plane

    After Stanford:

  • Realtek(Taiwan), reference design (SOC + software) for smart TV and digital media player
Created new category of consumer electronics in 2009 - $99 "HD media player",
and propelled it from zero to 10 millionth shipment in two years.
Its success popularized Over-The-Top TV viewership across Asia,
and catalyzed decline of cable set-top box/Blueray. The technological shift left
Silicon Valley tech companies years behind in smart TV platform, and eventually

  • Cisco, 7600 series router
  • Afara Websystems (acquired by Sun)
Creating processor targeted specifically for web based workload, by
        focusing on process/thread parallelism. The 8-core, 4-threads/core
Ultrasparc T1, outperformed nearest competing processor by 10x.
Its success popularized the term "multi-core/multi-thread" in CPU.
Study T1 architecture in Computer Architecture
