Tianjin was originally called Zhigu, began as a small village in Jin Dynasty. From YuanDynasty(Mongle Empire) it was set as Haijin Town, it's the beginning of City of Tianjin. At Yongle era of Ming Dynasty, it became Fort Tianjin. At Yongzheng era of Qing Dynasty Tianjin county was established, under the rules of Tianjin Fu. In 1928, Tianjin became a Spicial City. In 1930, it changed to Tianjin City. Now Tianjin is a direct controlled city of the central government.

Tianjin saw a lot of astonishing changes and sufferings in China's modern history. In 1860, the Treaty of Peking opened Tianjin to foreign trade. Tianjin was then controlled by 9 countries. Today, the city still has many old European-style buildings. From 1925 to 1931, the last emperor, Pu Yi, lived here.

Tianjin's Food Street provides tasty local flavors, such as sweat meat, the Zhang's Peanut, crisp fried doughnut and lovely steamed bread with fillings. Its Ancient Culture Street has a large variety of handicrafts and antiques.
