Program:
Develop an exhibition space and learning center with four themes of Earth, Sun, Air and Water. Design a generic prototype building which can be translated into custom site-specific schemes. Use a floor plan of approximately 16,000 square feet, single- or multi-level depending on environment. Use any construction materials and systems, but every part of the building itself should be an object lesson in ecological design and engineering.
Solution:
I created a generic exhibition space prototype based on a radial module. The four exhibition spaces can either be adjacent or stacked on top of each other, depending on available building area and whether the learning center will be built in a rural or urban environment. The circular layout and theme is based on the flow and movement of people through the learning center and the concept of the ecological cycle. Ecological design elements include passive and active solar design, alternative environmental materials, bioremediation waste processing, and wind power.
